Yagya Diwas

One day each year when homes across the world light the same sacred fire.

01कारणThe reason

Why 17 September?

Yagya Diwas was born of a simple call from Yagya Putra: on 17 September, let every family perform a havan.

The date falls at the close of the monsoon, when stagnant water breeds mosquitoes and insects and seasonal fevers rise. Gurudev teaches that havan smoke, spreading through homes and villages at this time, purifies the air and protects the household.

First observed in 2023, the day has grown every year. In 2026 the fourth International Yagya Diwas was celebrated with a 1008-kund Mahayagya at Jayanti Devi Mandir, Jind.

03विधिThe way

A havan at home, step by step

Simple enough for any family, sacred enough for any day. Allow about thirty minutes.

  1. Choose the hour

Sunrise or sunset is traditional. Bathe, wear clean clothes and sit facing east with your family.

  2. Set the kund

Place a small copper or clay kund on a fire-proof surface. Keep a kalash of water, a diya and flowers beside it.

  3. Take the sankalp

Hold a little water and rice, and state your intention — for whom, and for what, you offer this yagya.

  4. Kindle the fire

Light camphor on a bed of thin samidha. Add sticks gently, letting the flame breathe.

  5. Offer the ahuti

With each स्वाहा, offer a spoon of ghee or a pinch of samagri with the fingertips of the right hand. After each offering, say इदं न मम.

  6. Purnahuti and aarti

Make a final offering with the whole family, perform aarti, and share prasad.

  7. Return the ash

When the fire has burned out and the ash is cool, offer it to the soil of a plant or a tree.

04मन्त्रMantras

Mantras for a home havan

Recite each line and offer one ahuti at every स्वाहा.

At sunrise
सूर्याय स्वाहा, सूर्याय इदं न मम।प्रजापतये स्वाहा, प्रजापतये इदं न मम॥
At sunset
अग्नये स्वाहा, अग्नये इदं न मम।प्रजापतये स्वाहा, प्रजापतये इदं न मम॥
Gayatri, with स्वाहा
ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः। तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि।धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात् स्वाहा॥
